Building Resistance is a nonprofit education and advocacy organization dedicated to building effective movements for social justice. Founded in New York City during the aftermath of the events of September 11, 2001, the project grew out of a recognition of the heightened need for coordinated political action in defense of civil and human rights for all people. The Project works towards the development of effective strategies for the defense and empowerment of disenfranchised communities. Working both independently and collaboratively with community groups and advocacy organizations, our work is focused in two main areas: engaging with other national and international civil and human rights organizations in an effort to build our collective capacity as a force for progressive change and providing individualized technical and strategic planning assistance to small community based organizations. Building Resistance is based in the belief that self-directed community action is the key to positive social change. Accordingly, we support peoples’ efforts to express their views and organize within their communities free from obstacles based on race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, economic status, political opinion or national origin. |
